Spring is in the air and now is the perfect time to get your home and closet ready for the new season.

Selecting new trends and colors for your home can be a little tricky but, often, it pairs with what’s hot in apparel.

Recently I interviewed Sherrie Day, product development director of women’s modern apparel for JC Penney Co. in Dallas.

Day told me that denim is hot for the new season as well as lace, frilly blouses and comfy jumpsuits. The new colors for spring include lavender, fuchsia, aqua and turquoise. Patterns and exotic prints are back in a big way with embellishments.

In interior design, this look could translate to a more romantic feel indoors with exotic printed pillows and soft flowing drapes. Look for fresh colors in lavender and blue. Purple is still hot for the spring as well as chocolate and gray.

Consider pairing stark white furniture with lavender, blue or gray. If white furniture is a little too much for your taste mix in a few white accessories for a fresh clean look.

When it comes to glam, add sparkle with glass, crystal or a beaded frame.

Incorporate a hint of romance with a lace tablecloth or a sheer drape. Another option is to incorporate a crystal chandelier or sexy drop light with lots of curves and color.

In the bedroom or bathroom, change out simple pulls with hardware “candy” filled with crystals or jewels.

What’s your  favorite spring trend?
