Mi-Ling Stone Poole –

Dear Mi-Ling:  How can I turn my bedroom into a romantic getaway spot, for my husband and me to be able to escape to without spending a lot of money?

Leslie P.

Dear Leslie: Creating a romantic space for you and your husband is not as difficult as you may think.

Our bedrooms tend to be the last space we decorate simply because it’s a private space not normally seen by the public.

Here are a few cost-saving tips to add a little romance to your master bedroom

  1. Place framed photographs of you and your husband in the space. Don’t put photos of your children or other family members in the room. It should be all about you and your hubby. You can glam up an existing frame by hot gluing loose stones from a broken necklace or other gems onto your frame.
  2. Add inexpensive sheers to your windows to add drama and soften the room. You can even layer the sheers under your existing drapes by adding a second curtain rod or place sheers on each end.
  3. Incorporate a few candles into to your space. The scent of vanilla is commonly thought to be seductive,
stay away from heavy floral scents. The candles will also add ambiance to your retreat when lit.
  4. Layer your bed with luxury but avoid placing an over abundance of pillows on the bed.  A soft and cozy throw or satin pillow cases will spice things up a bit. For a quick change replace your bed skirt with a more luxurious fabric. You can create a bed skirt by sewing the fabric to an existing sheet or tuck it in around the bed and allow it to puddle.

Lighting is essential when planning your space. Install a dimmer in your room for instant ambiance Check your existing table lamps you might have 3 way switches. Oftentimes, the switches are already present on existing lamps you just need the proper bulbs.

Don’t stress out about creating this haven for you and your hubby. Add a few things at a time and be patient with your design. Stick with your budget and purchase things on sale whenever possible. Buy the best quality at a discounted price.

What is the most romantic item you have in your bedroom?
