Mi-Ling Stone Poole – DEAR MI-LING: Lately I have been seeing a lot  of metal accessories in the stores. It kind of reminds me of some of the artwork  that was really popular in the ’60s and ’70s. Are geometric prints, circles,  bold flowers patterns and “peace signs” back in style?

Old Hippie

DEAR OLD HIPPIE: I don’t know if you want to pull out your old  macrame hanging table. I actually made one back in the late ’70s. I hung it from  my ceiling in my bedroom.

It even had a round glass top that fit snuggly in place. It was a very cool  thing to do back in the day, but it was hard on the hands, quite itchy. I think  I was in my first year of college when I tackled that project.

In 2008, the “peace sign” celebrated 50 years. This has ignited a frenzy of ’60s decor and clothing. Lots of metal and earthy decor are back in style.

I told myself I wasn’t going back there, being a child of the ’60s.

However, I recently purchased several items of clothing with the “peace  sign” emblem, and I’m enjoying some of those childhood memories that it has  brought back.

A few of the metal pieces have ended up on the walls in my bedroom as well,  although they don’t have a ’60s vibe, but more of a contemporary or modern feel.

My advice to you is to just enjoy the fad as it will probably move on soon and make room for the next new trend.

Would you design a ’60’s or ’70s room in your home?
