Just because you’ve closed the pool doesn’t mean you can’t entertain in the backyard for the fall and winter months.

For those mild fall and winter nights, all you need is a fire pit or an outdoor heater. In no time, you’ll be roasting marshmallows and drinking hot cider with your friends. Keep a television or radio nearby with the game on and your friends will be happy.

Here are a few tips to keep your outdoor space looking good during the winter months.

• Fire up the fire pit or outdoor fireplace and cozy up the space.

• Stage your outdoor room. Place warm blankets and flannel pillows in the chairs and keep a basket of mittens nearby.

• Clean out the dead plants in your pots!

• Layer the floor with rugs to keep the cold off your feet.

• Place cushions in the seats and string up outdoor lights.

Don’t let the first bite of fall or winter bring you inside. Think ski lodge and create an outdoor space that your friends and family will enjoy. As long as the weather permits, you can entertain outdoors and take advantage of the cool temperatures and the fresh air.

The key is to dress for the occasion and inform your guests that you have a wonderful outdoor space.

Fire up the pit, roast those marshmallows, enjoy a cup of hot cocoa and enjoy your backyard paradise.
